Groundwork Portland is the primary non-profit in the Portland metro area focused on brownfields redevelopment and conversion of such land into greenspace, parks, community gardens, and multi-purpose sites.
Brownfields are real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant.
Groundwork Portland uses a community-led process to reclaim and restore land, build awareness of environmental justice issues, and create long-term civic engagement and leadership opportunities for communities of color, low-income residents, and youth from disadvantaged backgrounds to influence development in their neighborhoods and region over time.
The Portland Harbor Community Coalition Storytelling Project has begun collecting stories of people with an interest in seeing the river cleaned up. Contact cassie@groundworkportland.org to add your voice to this project.
